Artificial rain-making in 13 provinces.

As many provinces throughout Thailand are affected by flooding, 13 provinces in the northern, northeastern, and central regions are facing water shortage and need help from artificial rain-making operations.

The Director-General of Department of Royal Rain-making and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA), Surasee Kittimonthon, said on Thursday (Aug 23rd) that farmer representatives from 46 districts of the 13 provinces had sought help from his department last week. The provinces included Tak, Uttradit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, and Maha Sarakham.

Mr. Surasee said artificial rain-making teams in Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Lop Buri, and Kanchanaburi already conducted cloud-seeding operations, resulting in little or moderate rain in some areas.

He said farmers in 30 districts are still in need of water for their crops and livestock on a regular basis, and assured them that the department would do its best to help them.
